In mathematics this month we have been learning about, subtraction and multiplication. For subtraction we have studied various methods, focusing on problems around money to determine how much change we might expect when shopping.

This month our literacy began with investigations into the purpose and features of newspapers, including a terrible event concerning a Lime tree, which had been felled in our playground. We moved on to learning about adventure stories with our main focus text being Around the World in Eighty Days, by Jules Verne. Through this we have looked at the feature of this text type and also written our own version of this tale.

In Design and technology which is linked to our literacy topic of adventures and exploring, we have been creating vehicles from junk to assist Phileas Fogg and Passepartout. The children really enjoyed building these vehicles.

The two science topics that we have covered have been forces and plants. Your children explored with great enthusiasm the speed at which, toy cars travelled over different surfaces. For our plant topic we have been studying the life cycle of plants from germination to maturity.
