We started the Spring term and New Year with our new topic, ‘The sky is the limit when you work hard’. Children were excited to launch our topic by entering the small hall to find a pile of straw, sticks and bricks. We were set the challenge to build the 3 Little Pigs houses. It was particularly tricky to do using the straw, but we did try our hardest! We have been looking at traditional stories and enjoyed measuring our feet to find out who had the smallest and biggest feet when learning about the story, ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’.
In Literacy, children have most recently been looking at the story, ‘Little Red Hen’ and we made a class story map to help us retell the story. Children have been encouraged to become independent writers and have been inspired to write their own labels, stories and story maps linked to the story. In Shape, Space and Measure, children have been looking at 3D shapes and talking about the properties. In Number, children have continued to recognise numbers and have been learning to subtract single digit numbers using objects. In Physical development, children have been introduced to the five gymnastic shapes and are now applying these into simple movement and learning how to use the benches safely.

Home Learning – Explore shapes.

Go on a shape hunt around your house. Can you name any 2d or 3d shapes and talk about them. For example, a baked bean tin is a cylinder, a cereal box is a cuboid.
