Welcome back to the second term of Autumn!
October has been a super busy month for Year 4! We have immersed ourselves in our topic of superheroes and our place in the world throughout most of our topics.
In literacy, we have been working hard at writing narrative stories about superheroes. We have had to be super creative and imaginative when developing our character, settings and plot since we wanted to bring our stories to life.
In maths, we have been adding and subtracting four-digit numbers. We have also been using the inverse to check our answers. Some of us are still finding exchanging numbers quite tricky, but it’s all about perseverance and resilience!
Speaking of perseverance and resilience, we will be having a lot of discussions about growth mindset. Sure, we all get frustrated with our learning sometimes, but it’s important to remember that won’t always have the answers to everything right away! Sometimes we just take a break and come back to it later.
We have been looking at negative language and seeing how we can turn it around.
I can’t do it!  I can’t do it just yet.
This is too hard!  This is hard but I will keep trying and not give up.
I’m just going to sit here and not try at all.  I can always start by asking for help.
In science, we have finished our topic on Habitats and living things. It was very exciting to learn about all the different organisms and how they are all connected. It’s important for us to understand how habitats work so that we know how nature and ecology are balanced. We greatly enjoyed this unit, especially when we explored our school’s habitat for all the living things we could find! To celebrate our learning, we created our own habitats and presented them at our Habitat Fair Learning Event on the 30th of October! It was amazing to see everyone’s creations and showing off all our learning and our achievements with parents!
In History, we explored Ancient Greece, the famous city states of Athens and Sparta, the Olympic Games, the Greek Gods and Greek pottery! All the lessons were very creative and we were bursting to share all the amazing and interesting facts we knew about Ancient Greece!
Thank you for giving it your all every day, Year 4! It’s been a brilliant half term and we can’t wait for what’s to come!
