At Lime Tree, we use phonics as a teaching approach across the whole school from Early Years- Year 6.
In Early Years and Key Stage One, this is used as part of the teaching of early reading and writing; in Key Stage Two this approach is used for teaching of spelling.
We have developed our own phonics progression from Early Years – Year 6. The progression in EYFS and KS1 works alongside the ‘Letters and Sounds’ programme for clear progression of phonic skills.
The progression from the end of Year 2 and in KS2 is linked directly with the ‘No Nonsense Spelling’ programme, using phonics strategies to break down words in order to learn spelling rules.
Below are links to a series of YouTube videos showing the Phonics sounds and how to make them, for your child to practice.
(Please be aware these are YouTube videos so depending on the device being used parents may want to do this alongside their children).
